Late Amaka Igwe’s Husband, Charles Igwe Says “The Doctors’ Strike Caused Her Death”
This week the Nollywood film industry lost a super talented film director in the person of Amaka Igwe, who died from a fatal asthma attack on April 28 in Enugu where she had gone along with her husband Charles Igwe for pre-production for a new Igbo soap they were both working on. [READ HERE]
Her widower Charles Igwe painfully narrated how his wife tragically died, when delegates from the National Executive of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) who paid him a condolence visit a few days ago he is reported to have attributed her death to the ongoing doctors strike in Enugu state.

We were in Enugu preparing for her new soap, and Amaka was taking some of the people through acting when she had an asthma attack. After using her inhaler without success, she was taken to a nearby hospital, but we were told that the doctor was not around. We then went to the teaching hospital in Enugu, where we were again told that the Doctors were on strike. It was while we were taking her to another hospital that she died.
