South Sudan: Who Killed Hero Dr John Garang?
An SPLA (Sudanese people liberation army) soldier arranges a portrait of John Garang De Mabior on his tomb in Juba,
Late Hero Dr. John is a member of the Dinka ethnic group, Garang was born in Wangulei village in the upper Nile region of South Sudan. An orphan by the age of ten, he had his fees for school paid by a relative, going to schools in Wau and then Rumbek. In 1962 he joined the first Sudanese civil war, but because he was so young, the leaders encouraged him and others his age to seek an education. Because of the ongoing fighting, Garang was forced to attend his secondary education in Tanzania. After winning a scholarship, he went on to earn a B.A. in economics in 1969 from Grinnell College in Iowa, USA. He was known there for his bookishness. He was offered another scholarship to pursue graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, but chose to return to Tanzania and study East African agricultural economics as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). At UDSM, he was a member of the University Students' African Revolutionary Front. However, Garang soon decided to return to Sudan and join the rebels.
There is much erroneous reporting that Garang met and befriended Yoweri Museveni, future president of Uganda, at this time; while both Garang and Museveni were students at UDSM in the 1960s, they did not attend at the same time. In 1970, Garang was among one of the batches of Gordon Muortat Mayen's soldiers, the then leader of the Anyanya liberation movement, sent to Israel for military training.
Garang is known for his hard working and unselfishness since he started the rebellion SPLA/SPLM in 1983 his plans to bring freedom to south Sudanese was uncertain the struggle was not easy for him and his colleagues but he finally achieved his really picture he painted when taking up arm against the Muslim north.
Citizens were not aware of his sudden death, everyone was hoping that he will live longer to complete his mission but the twenty one years of struggle turned into twenty one days in the office of the first Vice president in the Republic of Sudan and the President of the Autonomy South.
Many South Sudanese were eager to know what robbed the life of a man they belief was their Moses?
Here is the list of the suspects and the reason why he was killed.
1. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, Kiir was the closet man to Dr John Garang in the liberation of South but many doubts him after the signing of comprehensive peace agreement kiir did not appreciates the amnesty Garang gave to high learned comrade who left the movement for some few reasons E.g Dr Riek Machar, Dr Lam Akol and many others plus some rebel top leaders who were better than him on Educational qualification he was thinking these people will one day killed his dream of becoming the top leader if anything happen Garang his boss.
Salva disagreed with Garang few months after CPA when Garang decides to bring Dr Riek Machar Teny (the man who deserve to be the deputy of Dr John) to be his deputy or Nhial Deng Nhial because he can sell the ideologies of the party SPLM because Garang see incompetency in him ( Kiir).
Kiir threatened the people who were in the meeting by saying if anything of such happen then i will wage another rebellion on you people, he left the meeting and promises not to associates with Garang until he change his idea of removing him .
Garang was confused on what will be his next plan to bring his bush friend back and i know most of you remembered very well the speech Garang read in Rumbek praising kiir mayardit as the next leader and that was the place many people start building trusting on kiir but we all failed to understand that Garang was using the gathering to wash off head kiir from the previous discussion.
